I am excited to announce my first work in the dynamic genre of voice and chamber winds which will be completed in the Fall of 2020. This song cycle will continue my series of works that attempt to address the troubled legacy of my native state Georgia. The texts will be drawn from the early poems of Georgia Douglas Johnson, one of the best known poets of the Harlem Renaissance and a native of Atlanta. Of African, Native American, and English heritage, Douglas Johnson was championed by James Weldon Johnson whose poetry inspired my 2016 piece Ghosts of the Old Year.
