Just got back from a thrilling experience at the International Saxophone Symposium and Competition! There were six wonderful performances of my concerto for saxophone and percussion and ensemble by amazing young soloists from throughout the nation and abroad. Huge thanks to Amy Griffiths and Paul Vaillancourt for including me in this great new event. You can check out the new recording here.
I have been honored once again with the privilege of composing a solo trombone work for Joseph Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic and one of the world's greatest trombone soloists. The piece is entitled "Garden of the Gods" and was commissioned by the brilliant young trombone professor Dr. Brad Palmer of the Schwob School of Music. Check out the score and a demo here.
Joe along with Brad conducting his fine choir will be recording the piece this coming January and I can't wait to hear the results! There are several beautiful recordings of the group on YouTube, so check them out. My latest work "Kubla Khan" for chorus, piano, and percussion ensemble is now finished! You can view the score and listen to a MIDI demo here. This piece was commissioned by the combined choirs here at Colorado State University under the direction of Dr. James Kim and Dr. Ryan Olsen, as well as the CSU Percussion Ensemble and Dr. Eric Hollenbeck. The world premiere will take place at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference in January!
I've added a new page to this site that brings together all my music for solo clarinet and clarinet chamber music. Go to "compositions" and then "clarinet" or just click here.
Wesley Ferreira will be performing Auto '66 and E-Type Jag tomorrow at the University of Nebraska for this year's international ClarinetFest. I'll be in attendance and will speak a bit about the two works. This marks the sixth time one of my pieces has been performed at ClarinetFest, so thanks to all of those amazing clarinetists who've supported me over the years!
My latest work entitled L'oiseau dans l'espace for alto saxophone and percussion ensemble is now complete and available for competition finalists. I'm thrilled to be participating in this exciting new event in the saxophone community, and can't wait to hear the premiere this October!
You can find the score and program notes here: ISSAC Concerto If you are a competition finalist, please contact me directly for your solo part and score. Peter Sommer is once again performing some of my electroacoustic music at a major saxophone conference. He'll be presenting a new version of Fantasy Etudes, Book I (in memoriam Ligeti) and also the second movement of KAFKA. The World Saxophone Congress is held every three years, and this time it's in St. Andrews Scotland.
I will be participating in two presentations at this week's North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference which is being held on the campus of Arizona State University. This Friday at 2:00 PM, Peter Sommer and I will be discussing my electroacoustic works for jazz saxophone. Also, Sunday, March 18 at 11:00 AM, there will be a panel discussion on the upcoming International Saxophone Symposium and Competition (which I was selected to compose a work for the competition's final round).
I've just added video and audio recordings of last Friday's premiere performance of AUTO '66. Head to the clarinet concerto page for a look and/or listen...
I am pleased to announce that the Colorado State University Wind Ensemble will be performing my clarinet concerto "AUTO '66", Friday, Feb 24. The group will be under the baton of Dr. Christopher Nicholas and the work features the brilliant playing of CSU's new clarinet professor Wesley Ferriera.
