Shilo Stroman, soloist Special Assistant Professor of Percussion, Colorado State University Dr. Richard Frey, conductor Associate Director of Bands, Colorado State University Program Notes:The vibraphone strikes me as a truly modern instrument that is just beginning to be discovered by composers. In this one-movement concerto, I seek to utilize the many colors of the instrument while respecting its legacy in both jazz and 20th/21st century music. The work will explore the elusive and beguiling qualities of scales from numerous musical traditions including Japanese Gagaku, Indonesian Gamelan, and the Arabic Maqam.
