About the Composer

Dr. James M. David (b. 1978) is associate professor of composition and music theory at Colorado State University.  His works for wind ensemble have been commissioned and performed by numerous university and professional ensembles including the Dallas Wind Symphony, the U.S. Army and Air Force Bands, the World Youth Wind Symphony (Interlochen, MI), the University of Illinois, the University of Alabama, Florida State University, Ohio State University, and many others.  His works have been performed at multiple conferences for the College Band Directors National Association and National Band Association. Dr. David is an honor graduate of the University of Georgia and completed his doctorate at Florida State University.  He previously taught at Columbus State University and taught middle school band with Mary Wilson and Fritz Siler in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

About the Work

This new work for grade 3/4 concert band will be predmoniantly lyrical, yet concluding with a powerful and exciting finale.  It will draw on the full capabilities of the younger concert band and, despite its lyrical nature, will strongly feature percussion. The piece will also relate to both the character and beauty of my native state of Georgia.  More complete program notes and a perusal score will be available in August 2016.
